Shemar Steward - DE - A&M:
If the pick gives you deja vu it is because they made the exact same pick two years ago. In 2023 Miles Murphy was same height, weight, uber athlete, under productive, big time high school recruit who played at a big time college program. The Bengals have a long history of developing these types of players, and Murphy is proof. He has turned in to an absolute stud of a 3rd string rotation backup player. Fans can only hope the Bengals are lucky enough to strike gold like that again this year. There is even more upside with Steward, because he plays extremely hard on every snap while narrowly missing out on a sack or impactful play.
Fun Fact: If Stewart records a two sack game in the NFL it would be a new career high for him, since his previous record is 1.5 sacks in a season. He matched that impressive total in all three of his college seasons at A&M. A truly ascending player.
Demetrius Knight - LB - Chickens:
Love the player, but mid 2nd round seems a little early for a guys who will be 26 years old this season. The bengals must have decided that they did not want to worry about having to coach up a player during his prime. They preffered a mature leader that certainly reminded them of current LB Jermaine Pratt. They are same player, and bascially the same age. They can only hope to get similar production from Knight for a few seasons before he retires, or requests a trade.
Fun Fact: This is the oldest player ever drafted in the history of the draft. Probably not, but it sure feels that way.
Dylan Fairchild - OG - Dawgs:
Awesome pick to land the 3rd best interior offensive on the Georgia Dawgs at # 81 overall. NFL.com graded Fairchild as a solid backup or speacial teamer. Exactly the kind of move that can push a non-playoff team into the maybe-playoff team status. Will compete for a practice squad spot right away with the potential to replace one of the backups from last year who backed up the worst two starting gurads in the the league.
Fun Fact: Finished high school wrestling career with a 22-0 record. The Benglas heard NFL.com draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah say that he likes guys with high school wrestling backround, so they could not believe he was still available with the 81st pick in the draft.
Barrett Carter - LB - Clempson:
Decent pick. On the field Carter is a solid player, but there are some off the field issues... Like why the hell would any bozo chose to attend Clempson? Also, can someone please tell me why the hell we did not draft Captain Jack with this pick?
Fun Fact: He is not 26 years old.
Jalen Rivers - OG/OT - The U:
"He would be off the borad if he didn't have injury issues, so we are very lucky to get him." - Bengals War Room
Fun Fact: Jalen's dad is Keith Rivers... But not the one who got his jaw broke by Hines Ward. Keith served in teh Navy, and Mel Kiper Jr says kids with military parents are usually good kids.
Tahj Brooks - RB - Texas Tech:
Great pick. Nothing funny to say about this one. Tahj has a chance to be the second best undersized running back in franchise history with the last name Brooks. If Chase Brown, Zach Moss, Semaj Perine get hurt there should be very little drop off with Brooks.
Fun Fact: "Every team needs a good 4th string running back to win championships." - Not Bill Belichick
